Northwest Trade Gun Builder Class. Sept. 19th thru Sept. 28th, 2013 with Brent Gurtek
In the “Making a Northwest Trade Gun” Class at North House Folk School students learn about this famous weapon, its true place in American and Canadian history as a fur trade item, and a hunting and war implement. But the course’s main focus is crafting an example, starting with a nearly complete lock and barrel, but making most of the other components, sights, mounts and wooden stock by hand, using traditional tools and methods to the greatest possible extent.
The students left the course with a completed Northwest Gun, or one that could be easily finished at home. Ten days is easily adequate time to make an authentic Trade Gun!
